Can I get a mortgage after a bankruptcy?
The question comes up alot. Short answer is Yes, but it's not easy.
The best thing to do is start working on reestablishing your credit right after discharge.
Generally banks and insurers (such as CMHC and Genworth) like to see 2 active trade lines with minimum $2,000 limit (credit cards, lines of credit, etc) with a 2 year history.
After discharge, it might be difficult to obtain new credit cards. You can start with secured credit cards and work your way up from there.
While you are working on improving your credit, we can get a short term mortgage with one of our B lenders. By the time it renews, you will be ready to go to an A+ lender with improved credit.
